The previous Georgia president has gone on a number of starvation strikes since his imprisonment two years in the past after being convicted in absentia for corruption and abuse of energy.

These pictures of an emaciated Mikhail Saakashvili in a trial by video convention have raised alarm about his state of well being and have brought on the expulsion of the Georgian ambassador to Ukraine.

Starvation strikes

Saakashvili, Georgia’s president from 2004 to 2013, has gone on a number of starvation strikes since his imprisonment two years in the past. Moreover, ensures that he’s being poisoned. He was tried in absentia in 2018 and sentenced to 6 years in jail for corruption and abuse of energy. Throughout his exile in Ukraine, he turned governor of Odessa.

He was arrested in 2021, after returning to help the opposition.

His legal professionals and Ukraine demand that he be handled in a Western European hospital.

The Georgian justice, for its half, assured two months in the past that the European Courtroom of Human Rights had rejected his request to be handled in Poland.
